Police Find Two Dead In Minnesota Shooting

Posted: Updated:

A child custody fight may have played a role in the shooting deaths of a Fargo couple near Alexandria, Minn.

Police found the bodies of Devin Blowers and Katie Christopherson in a field shortly after they shot a deputy.

Investigators say it appears Blowers shot Christopherson, then killed himself.

Blower's father told a Twin Cities newspaper that his son was upset because child welfare officers wouldn't let the couple have custody of their newborn baby.

He says his son had a history of drug problems, and child protective services wanted the couple to return to treatment before they would release the girl to their custody.

Police say a Douglas County deputy responded to a suspicious vehicle call Monday night. Blowers shot the deputy in the chest, but he was saved by his bullet-proof vest. The couple got stuck in the snow when they tried to drive off, so they ran instead.

Police found their bodies about four hours later.
