Lions Return To Class B Tournament

Posted: Updated:

The month of March means win or be done for most teams on the basketball court. It's a feeling the Lions of Linton-HMB know all to well as they enter their 20th Class-B state tournament later this week.

Success on the basketball floor is nothing new to the Lions. Either is playing in the state tournament.

"At the beginning of the season we hoped to be good and we expected that we could compete in the district and regional and we came out and competed," says senior Brooks Flyberg

Their last title came in 2009. The Lions have competed in the state tournament in every decade since Class B started. With more than 600 wins under head coach Dan Carr.

"As a coach I think I'm a very focused person, so hopefully that rubs off. If we screw around in practice today they are going to know about it," says Dan Carr.

"Visualize, it really helps us. When you see it, and you end up going and doing it on the court that really helps us," says junior Ryan Schneider.

The Lions tip off on Thursday against Cavalier but the goal stays the same.

"We hope to play hard, do good and have fun," says Erik Holzer of the Lions.

The Lions beat Strasburg-Zeeland foe the Region-3 championship. They will play Thursday afternoon against Cavalier. It's the second game of the day at the Alreus Center in Grand Forks. The Tornadoes are the number three seed. Flasher gets it started against Oak Grove. New Town has Rugby. The Panthers were number-one in the final poll of the season. Beulah wraps-up the quarterfinals against North Star.
