1992 has some company, until this season, '92 was the only year a West Region school won the boys state hockey championship.
Bismarck beat Grand Forks Central 10-days ago to end the WDA title drought. The Demons entered the tournament with the best record in the state and they backed it up by beating Fargo South/Shanley, West Fargo and Central by a combined total of 15-5. Jared Spooner was outstanding on the offensive end for B.H.S.
Mike Peluso, "he was obviously tournament MVP and that started pretty early in the season and he progressed and got better and certainly his line mate Tre Kautzman didn't hurt but it was a group effort. We had 20 kids playing pretty well and certainly we had solid defense and good goaltending."
Brett Malkmus, "it feel great! I don't even know if it... It's still a little like WOW we won and it's just great all the hard work we put in. It's finally paid off and we got our first one."
This is the first time the state championship trophy, the West Region tournament title trophy and the Regular Season title trophy have been with the same school at the same time.
