Our Redeemers Reach Region 6 Tournament

Posted: Updated:

Our Redeemers head coach Kory Nelson would have loved a win that didn't cause his heart rate to skyrocket, but he'll take a dramatic victory nonetheless. 8th grader Karlee Zablotney hit a layup with a second left in overtime to give the Knights the victory over MLS and the right to go to the Region 6 tournament.

"I think it gave us a lot of confidence beating the two seed in the district with us being the number five seed," Zablotney says.

She may speak softly but Karlee is a force on the court. The play wasn't originally drawn up to go to her. With leading scorer Morgan Olson on the bench fouled out, Coach Nelson wanted Lauren Hendrickson to take the last shot, but Zablotney took charge and willed her team to the win.

"It gives us so much confidence going to the region tournament. It was always a goal to get to the regional tournament but we had a rough season so we were starting to get scared that it wouldn't be a possibility. Now that we have overcome that, it's a lot of confidence and we're definitely ready to keep going," junior McKensie Popinga says.

Our Redeemers will play District 11 champion TGU next Monday at 3:00 pm in the first round of the Region 6 tournament.
