NBC's The Voice has a familiar face this season. Scranton native Katherine Perkins is competing on the show.
Kathy (KAT) Perkins says that thanks to her Dad, she's a rocker by heart.
"My Dad was in a rock band in high school and a little bit after high school. He always kept the rock music playing in our house. He was always introducing me to new rock tunes and played records for me," says Kat.
It seems that music runs in the family. Kat's grandmother played the piano, her father, uncle and aunt were all part of a band and her mother played the organ.
Mark Perkins "I think my sophomore year in high school we started a rock band, The Young Imagination, and we had a little bit of local success. And we played around the upper Midwest," says Kat's Dad Mark Perkins.
Mark played both the base guitar and french horn.
"My thing is goal setting," says Mark. "Like what do you want out of this? What do you really want to do? Over the short term and the long term. And I think that helped, especially Kat where she is now. She talked from the time she was six- years-old about being a rock star."
"Surprised? Oh, not really I guess. I knew that she was, she's been doing this quite a while, quite a few years she been in the business. I knew she was pretty good," says Kat's grandfather Robert Perkins.
"I encouraged him, because they seemed to like that sort of thing. But it's kinda tough to get, you know, to make a lot of money," says Robert. "Make it work out."
Kat will be battling on The Voice tonight at 7 p.m. CT. Be sure to tune in and cheer her on.
