City Prepares For Downtown Revitalization

Some big changes are underway fordowntown Minot.

A trip downtown may make you realizea lot of things have been changing.

Some things you can see like newbusinesses moving in, but other things you can't see with your eyes.

The underground structures whichhold water mains and sewer lines are more than 75-to-100- years-old. And, in order to replace the oldwith the new, plans for the infrastructure project could be underway.

The biggest part of the project willgo to underground work for 26 city blocks.

But, the rest of the money will gotoward new street lights, new sidewalks, new benches and the overall lifestyleof downtown Minot.

"This is the heart of the city.We talk a lot about the downtown beat. The heartbeat. We got to keep that hearthealthy with this project. People need to be involved in that and be activeso they get what they want out of it," says Public Information Officer Mark Lyman.

An open house will begin in Room 201 of the Minot Auditoriumfrom 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday for a formal presentation of thedesign plans. The public is encouraged to attend.
