Pantry Prepares For Homeless Shelter Opening

Posted: Updated:
While the finishing touches are being made at the new Welcome House location, Northland Pace is filling it's pantry.

"I knew they were coming into a new location so we wanted to just do something to try to help them out and get them up and running so they could get their folks in here earlier," says Diane Miller the director of Northland Pace Marketing.

The senior services program has been conducting a month long food drive to benefit the short-term homeless shelter.

"We were running pretty low. When we open our doors, and finally start housing people, we're going to need the food here to feed them," says Brenda Kriedeman the executive director of Welcome House.

The new facility will hold 54 beds, that's 37 more beds than the last location. And with the increased capacity, comes the need for more resources.

"Northland Pace came along and started doing a pantry drive, but we need other people and businesses to kind of step up and give us a call," said Kriedeman.

Miller says she hopes the food drive encourages more people to donate year round.

The Northland Pace food drive has already collected a couple hundred pounds of food and is hoping to contribute more before the facility opens on April 15th.
