Students Attend Baby Shower For Charity

Posted: Updated:

Students at Cathedral hosted a different kind of baby shower to celebrate the birth of some newborn chicks.

This is actually the second year for the baby shower. The chickens started off as a science project to teach students about the life cycle from egg to hatchling.

Last year, after the chickens were born, students were so excited for the arrival they brought in gifts. But the gifts were actual baby clothes and toys.

So, the project turned from science, to community service. And today, the science teacher hosted a baby shower and invited students to bring in baby items that would be donated to First Choice Clinic.

"They may not understand the full gravity of how much this is really helping a young family, but they do know that they did something for somebody else and it felt good," says Wendy Schmidt of First Choice Clinic.

The students say they learned a lot, not just about chickens but about life.
