University System Rewrites Security Policies

Posted: Updated:

It appears to have only been a scare. The State University System says the server breach that took place a few months ago didn't victimize any individuals.

The IT Department worked with the government to ensure that more than 70,000 files with social security numbers and other personal information was not used. Forensic investigators helped the department discover the reason for the breach

"It looked to us like they had not accessed any of the files. But rather, they were using the server as a hopping off point to go to other places within the US. The hackers were from out of, off shore," says Dr. Lisa Feldner the vice chancellor of NDSU.

The university system is now rewriting security policies and procedures and updating user information.
