Job Service Holds Job Fair

Posted: Updated:

As you drive around town, Now Hiring signs are everywhere. But, with so much competition, filling those openings can be challenging.

From trucking and transportation to construction, as of Monday, there are more than 1,7000 jobs available in Ward County alone. And, as we quickly approach the "busy season," all of the positions need to be filled as soon as possible.

"Our focus at Job Service is to help people find the best job that they can with the skills that they currently possess," says D.J. McIntyre of Job Service North Dakota.

In effort to fill some of those openings, Job Service North Dakota is holding its annual Multi-Industry Job Fair.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet in person with employers," says McIntyre.

More than 50 companies from a variety of sectors are on-site ready to speak with job seekers.  It's a way for employers to save time and eliminate a portion of the application process.

"It takes a lot of time for them to recruit and interview people in their own setting. So, this is a time for them to set aside, come in, and be able to accomplish a lot of that in a short amount of time," says McIntyre.

For the first hour of the job fair, recruiters pay special attention to those who have served our country in uniform.

"Veterans are very good candidates in a number of ways," says McIntyre. "Their training in the military has made them good employees and the employers are anxious to meet with them, so it's definitely a win win."

Whether you're unemployed or just looking to make a career switch, Job Service North Dakota says making a good first impression is key to landing your dream job.

"We see lots of smiles coming out of the room," says McIntyre. "When they have been in and had a chance to visit with that employer."

The job fair is open Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Vegas Motel in Minot.

Tuesday's fair will focus on oil-related, retail, health services and hospitality jobs.  For more information about current job openings visit www.jobsnd.com.
