Williston Gymnastic Team Competes At State

This past weekend the Western Starsgymnastics level three and level five teams traveled to Fargo to compete at the state gymnasticsmeet. The team took second overall and many team members placed first andsecond in individual competitions.

Coach Whitney Miller is proud of thegirls and their dedication to the sport.

"At the state meet we won aplethora of state titles. We had individual titles, we also had event titles.The girls work very hard year round, and I'm very proud to be a coach of somededicated hard working young ladies," says coach Whitney Miller.

While Hannah Miller has donegymnastics since she was three-years-old, she still gets nervous before bigevents.

"I was still nervous. You stillget those nerves in your belly, but it gave me strength because Iturned the nerves into power. I don't worry about anything except theevent," says gymnast Hannah Miller.

For Margaret Garbel this was herfirst trip to state. Her goal was to work hard.

"It's exciting to go to state,and I just wanted to try my best," says Garbel.

Garbel was proud of her showing atstate and has big future goals.

"One day, I want to win firstplace in the Olympics," says Garbel.

Both Miller and Garbelagree that this Western Star team has a unique bond that makes all the hard work worth it.

"This team is bonded not onlyby heart, but by the sport. I think we work well together, and we motivate eachother in every scene, competition and practice," says Miller.

"My favorite thing is gettingto work with the team and making new friends," says Garbel.

Just back from Fargo, the girls are already starting totrain for next year's state meet.

"We are going to focus ontraining new skills, raising our level, and taking home the first place statetitle next year," says coach Miller.

Coach Millerand the girls wanted to thank the Williston community for their continuedsupport and generous sponsorships.
