Petroleum Council Reacts To Virginia Derailment

Posted: Updated:
With most of the oil produced in North Dakota A CSX train carrying North Dakota Bakken crude oil derailed in Virginia earlier this week. More than a dozen tanker cars went off the tracks, and three caught fire.

"There's no evidence showing that Bakken crude oil is more volatile than other high quality crude oils. It's just the fact that there's more Bakken crude on the rails these days. Again, the key is to keep those rail cars on the tracks because when a rail car goes off the tracks, you've got a volatile substance. It's no different if it's Bakken crude or West Texas crude," says Petroleum Council President Ron Ness.

Ness says the Petroleum Council will present.
