May Teacher of the Month Honored

Posted: Updated:

The May Teacher of the Month honoree is Mrs. Dina Norby. Mrs. Norby is a kindergarten teacher at Rickard elementary. She has been teaching at Rickard for four years.

While teaching kindergarten isn't always an easy task, Mrs. Norby loves being able to provide the students with the building blocks to their education.

"I love the excitement of the students coming in and just not knowing. It is their first look at education in the public school system and they come to us and we teach them everything from A-Z.; how do we pick up the pencil, how do we learn all these things. We are relied on for just that basic taste, we are the foundation, I believe for education,” explained Norby.

It is Mrs. Norby's special personality, passion, and unique teaching style that keep her kindergarten students engaged.

"She is a fun lady to be around, and she makes it that the kids want to keep coming. She just does a really great job,” added teacher’s aid, Rebecca Michaelson.

Kindergarten students Madison Johnson and Rhett Carns love how much they learn from Mrs. Norby and her caring personality.

"She's really nice and she helps us get better at stuff,” said Johnson.

"She’s really nice. And she teaches us a lot of stuff," agreed Carns.

She is not your average teacher. Mrs. Norby loves engaging her class and getting them involved.

"I think my favorite part is just creating lesson plans for them that keep them on their toes, so they are involved. It’s not just a paper or pencil. We take things outside if we are learning science, let's go on the playground, let's figure out things, let's explore, lets learn. That's the most important thing, to get them actively engaged in education,” added Norby.
