Last year, Stanley's softball team failed to make the state tournament. It's not that the Blue Jays weren't good enough.
They didn't even have a varsity team. Incredibly, in their first season, Stanley will be going to the class B tournament where they need to focus on defense.
"We've been working a lot on fielding the ball because we need to back up the pitcher. We struggled a little bit with that at regionals. We've been working on grounders and catching the ball," says first baseman Brianna Holland.
Coach Kayelee Corpron was optimistic prior to the season.
"I wanted everyone to have fun and work together. The outcome basically comes with how much time we put into it and how much togetherness we put together. We weren't setting high expectations but we knew that we were going to get there."
Stanley will play Kindred/Richland Thursday afternoon in the state tournament.
