Chinese Treats Phase Out

Posted: Updated:

After several dogs and cats have been sick due to foreign made pet treats, Petco and Petsmart have made it their mission to get those treats off the shelf.

While they can't pin point what ingredients are actually causing the animals to be sick, the common denominator is that all of the brands come from China. Across the country, pets were diagnosed with a variety of illnesses, some even leading to death.

"Pets are family. I know my pet is a part of my family. And, as soon as we find out stuff about that we no longer had that in my household or bought the products. We want to make sure our dog is healthy. People want to make sure their pet is healthy. It’s an investment,” says Petco Manager Sein Pfeil.

Petco and Petsmart plan to have all the pet treats made by China out of their stores by the end of the year.
