School Nutrition Association Holds Conference

Posted: Updated:
School administrators say that they received backlash from parents on what foods their children are eating. So, they are working to make federal changes to the school lunch guidelines.

In response to those parents, the North Dakota School Nutrition Association is holding a three day conference to learn new healthier ways that all North Dakotan schools can feed students. More than 180 school cooks and nutrition directors are at this year's conference.

"Manufacturers have been changing all of their products to meet our guidelines. To go from the 51 percent whole grains, now we're required to go to the 100 percent whole grains," says Becky Heinert the North Dakota president for the SNA.

"North Dakota is one of only two state nationwide who's actually serving more school meals, more school lunches than any other state," says Leah Schmidt the national president for the SNA.

Conference organizers say they're proud to report this is the largest group to ever attend this event.
