Minot Welcomes European Politicians

Posted: Updated:

From Washington D.C. to New York City and now Minot, a group of European government officials and politicians are making their way across America.

The Minot Area Council for International Visitors is hosting 15 international visitors until Wednesday.

All of the international visitors are nominated to become a part of the International Visitor Leadership Program.

During the three week long program, the group learns about all of the aspects of American life including politics, economy and social issues.

In Minot, the focus is how the Bakken oil boom is affecting environmental and social issues in the area.

"I think the city is growing so much, so many new people, so many changes and where there are changes, there is always some reaction, some fears and change is all over. It's a valuable lesson for all of us because in Europe we also see changes. The demography of Europe is changing. We have more and more immigrants and there are fears of something failing and I think this way we can also relate to people in Minot,” says Šádí Shanaáh an international visitor.

Tuesday, the group will tour the oil patch in the Stanley area.
