Taylor Addresses Landowner Concerns

Posted: Updated:

Agriculture Commissioner candidate Ryan Taylor says not enough is being done to protect the states farmers and ranchers.

He says if elected he will work with lawmakers to ensure that more is done to provide safety of pipelines not regulated by the Public Service Commission and bring more transparency to the Industrial Commission.

Taylor said another area of concern for him is increasing the distance that a drilling well can be from an occupied area from 500 feet to a quarter mile.

"There's going to be a lot of wells drilled in North Dakota, and while we support the drilling and the exploration of that resource, lets make sure that our residents have the space that they need," says Taylor.

His opponent, current Ag Commissioner Doug Goehring, says that increasing the distance would actually have a bigger impact on landowners and the environment because more infrastructure, such as roads, would need to be put in place.

Goehring also addressed the issue of transparency and says the industrial commission does post their minutes online for the public to view.
