Lewis and Clark State Park Draws Many

Posted: Updated:

Summer time is finally here, and it is a chance for everybody to get out and enjoy the outdoors. The Lewis and Clark State Park is open and has been busy since May.

People travel miles to visit Lewis and Clark State Park.

“So far summer's been great, I think everyone with the long winter was ready to get out,” says Ryan Gardner the park's manager. “They had a little bit of cabin fever, so things are going really well as long as the weather holds. We're seeing really good numbers this year.”

There are many things to do out here. One of those is getting out on the water and enjoying some peace and quiet.

People can also bring their RVs and stay on the campgrounds, or rent one of the two cabins on site and stay for a weekend. Students can also come visit for the day to enjoy themselves.

“We are canoeing, kayaking and hiking for physical education,” says Christina Watson who is a summer school student.

“We came out here to kayak, and do a nature hike,” says Isaac Arson a summer school student.

These students are all incoming freshman at Williston High School, and are looking to gain credit for physical education.

“My husband actually took it when he was in high school and he's now almost 28.” says Kaidra Froelich a Williston High School teacher. “This program is a wonderful time for kids. Kids just strive off coming to summer P.E. They look forward to it every year. They get to do it for two years."

The course is 10 days and there are a couple sessions during the summer every year. The teachers bring the students to the park to take advantage of the summer weather.

Gardner says if anybody wants to rent one of the cabins just call in advance.
