Emergency Landing at Minot Airport

Posted: Updated:
Thanks to a quick thinking pilot and crew members, 126 passengers on board flight 597 are safe.

A JetBlue flight made an emergency landing at Minot International Wednesday morning due to smoke on board.

Flight 597 was forced to divert to Minot after smelling an electrical odor coming from the cockpit. They were traveling from Boston and were heading to Seattle.

Minot Fire Department, police and community ambulance arrived on scene in minutes prepared for the worst, but once the pilot landed on the runaway, he canceled the emergency and crews left the scene.

"I spoke briefly with the maintenance supervisor. He told me that he had an idea of what was going on with it, and he was working in conjunction with air bust to correct the problem. I would imagine it’s fairly minor, but before they can certify the air worthiness of it they need to make sure they have their t's crossed and they're i's dotted,” says Bob Lindee, Minot public information officer.

After a few hours of sitting on the runway the passengers deplaned. Meanwhile, one passenger is taking to social media to give updates.

Jim Campanini tweets that passengers and one companion dog are stranded at Minot International. However, despite the detour everyone seems to be in good spirits.

"We don't have any reports of injured passengers or any other problems with that,” says Lindee.

Meanwhile, mechanics are still working to fix the problem.
