North Dakota Receives Honey Bee Funding

Posted: Updated:
North Dakota beekeepers are getting a boost of confidence from the government. The U.S.D.A. says it will spread $8 million among five states to protect declining bee populations. It's a vital investment for North Dakota, since it's the number one honey producer in the country.

"North Dakota is one of the number one states for the amount of colonies in the state so, maybe if we can get some bees for them. We can get these bees healthier for the pollination crops in the early spring," says Will Nissen of the North Dakota Beekeepers Association.

Managed honey bee colonies have dropped from six million in 1947 to two and a half million today.
