Tech Talk: Portable Chargers

Posted: Updated:

Wireless technology has made it easier for people to stay connected on-the-go. But while the technology is portable, it still needs to be charged.

Portable chargers can hold up to three full battery charges for a smart device, such as an iPhone.

"You can charge this up and take it with you camping, take it with you to the river, to the ball game, anywhere you're going for the summer. If you're going on vacation. And this will charge your phone," says Verizon Wireless Manager Nicolle Binstock.

When the charge runs out, you'll need an outlet to recharge the Power Pack. For those who plan to use a portable charger outdoors, a solar charger may be a good option. It takes about seven hours in the sun to get a full charge, but once it's charged, it's as simple as plugging in your smart device. The solar charger also has an emergency light.

"It's got a high setting and a low setting. The low setting emergency light setting will stay on for up to 60 hours without needed to be recharged. If you have it on the high setting it will stay on up to ten hours," says Binstock.

The solar charger also comes with a port that allows users to charge it on a laptop or through a wall outlet. Both devices can be found online or at a Verizon Wireless store.

Binstock says the portable chargers will hold a charge for up to a year.
