Firework Businesses Gear Up

Posted: Updated:

With the Fourth of July being less than two weeks away, several firework businesses are gearing up for their busiest time of the year.

While some people look forward to Thanksgiving or Christmas all year long, for Mike Yantes, he's got the fourth on the brain.

"It’s a season that I look forward to; to get my crew back and my workers back. It’s just a great time to get together. It’s kind of like a summer camp for me,” says Yantes.

Right now, preparation is the name of the game. They put a lot of long hours in when it comes to building their store. Whether it’s going over inventory or stocking the shelves, it’s never a dull moment.

Between bringing in boxes and setting up displays, it takes a lot of hard work to prepare for the one week they can legally sell fireworks.

A lot more work goes into the planning process than you think. The work begins when the previous season ends.

"I remember years ago when we could get by with setting up a few tables, and it’s just not that way anymore. The stores just keep getting bigger and better every year,” says Yantes.

In order to keep up with the busy business, they're constantly updated their supply to meet their demand.

"Our LED foam sticks which are brand new this year. So, check them out, they're pretty cool,” says Yantes.

As it gets closer to the fourth.

"Its gets amazingly busy here. Our lots will be full. We'll have a lot of people coming through. It just gets to be a busy time to come through and grab fireworks. We have lots of staff and plenty of space so we can get people through quickly. Don't be intimidated if you see a full lot. We're ready for it, we see it every year,” says Yantes.

Firework season kicks on Friday June 27 and runs through July 5.

The Minot Police Department wants to remind residents that it is illegal to possess, manufacture, sell or store fireworks within the city of Minot. Anyone who breaks this ordinance may be cited and fined $150.
