Touchmark Hosts June Wedding Celebration

Posted: Updated:

Many brides dream of a June wedding, and that's why one retirement community unveiled a special display.

The Touchmark Retirement Community hosted a June Wedding Celebration. And dresses dating back to 1909 were on display.

It was a snowy day in March of 1944 when Catherine Seidler put on this satin dress and said, "I do."

"That was the love of my life. And we have four wonderful children, eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren," says Seidler.

Her and her husband Robert were married 45 years. After he passed away, she never remarried.

"You know, when you've had a Lincoln, you can't settle for a Ford," says Seidler.

Seidler had two dresses on display at Touchmark's June Wedding Celebration.

The other dress belonged to her mother, who was married 105 years ago. Her daughter also wore it for her wedding in 1971.

Betty Fleck wed in a double wedding in 1947.

Her and her sister-in-law wore matching dresses. She didn't have her dress with her to display, but she shared fond memories about the dress that almost wasn't.

"They had to send for the dresses. And three days before the wedding, they finally came in. We were worried because we thought we'd have to go find different dresses," says Fleck.

Bernice Doll was married at 7:30 in the morning on Valentine's Day.

"We had our breakfast at the country club in Mandan, and we had to have creamed salmon on toast. And we had a reception in the afternoon. But it was a nice day. It was February 14 and the snow was melting," says Doll.

Her white velvet dress was made by her mother, but her mom wasn't the only seamstress in the family. And since fabric was hard to come by, Doll had to get crafty.

She made her flower girls' dresses out of shower curtains.

But no matter what fabric was used, all of the women agree, the dress is very important.

"They were very important to us," says Fleck.

Fifteen dresses were on display at the June Wedding Celebration. Touchmark served champagne and cupcakes and offered live music later in the afternoon.
