Heritage Center Commemorates Civil War

Posted: Updated:
The Civil Was happened 150 years ago, and interestingly enough, five U.S. Civil War battlefield sites are located right here in North Dakota. Big Mound, Dead Buffalo Lake, Killdeer Mountain, Stony Lake and Whitestone Hill.

Well today, the Heritage Center held a conference that commemorated the anniversary of the Civil War in North Dakota. And even though Confederate states didn't invade our state, Heritage Center employees tell us the  the Army did battle here with Native Americans.

"The History of North Dakota, pre history of the Upper Great Plains, is incredibly rich and important to the history of the entire United States and North American continent," says visitor, Amy Phillips. "So, it's very important for people to come to the heritage center and take advantage of the programming of the state historical society to learn more about their own history.
