Highway Patrol Colonel Retires

North Dakota Highway Patrol announced Col. James Prochniak's retirement from the force.

Prochniak began his career in August 1987 and has been stationed in Bismarck, Minnewaukan, Casselton and Fargo. In 2009, he was appointed State Highway Patrol Superintendent in Bismarck.

His retirement became effective June 30, making Col. Michael Gerhart, Jr. the new superintendent of North Dakota Highway Patrol. Prochniak was awarded the North Dakota Highway Patrol Meritorious Service Medal for his efforts.
