Art in the Park Returns

Mandan's 43rd annual Art In the Park starts tomorrow. Since this morning, vendors have been working in shifts to get ready.

The set up for the event has changed. Art, clothing and other vendors are now more so on the east side of the park. The picnic tables and food vendors are all on the west side.

More than 100 vendors are setting up tents, dressing up clothing racks and laying out the jewelry for all to see.

"It's a fun show. You know, there's a lot of activities. People are awesome. The town really supports our work," says vendor Jill Hendrix.

Hendrix has been bringing her glass art for more than 10 years. She says fellow vendors, park visitors and event organizers are what bring her back. She says there's never a dull moment.

"The response has been incredible. People seem to really like the work. And everything here is original, one of a kind," she says. 

Cassia Albrecht and her, soon to be three, little girls agree the people are what make the event. She says if you've never been here, you have to come check it out.

"People you see every year. It's fun, to see them, and then it's just inspiring. So it's always good to keep trying new things," says Albrecht.

Albrecht says the event is a unique and a cost efficient way to show off your work. She says her two models are great helpers and attention grabbers.

Organizers say this started so many years ago with a simple agenda.

"Community minded people wanted to start it and run it in conjunction with the Mandan Rodeo Days. Just another fun event. It's a great festival for all ages," says Suzie Kocourek Art in the Park secretary.

The events volunteers say visitors will be busy with all there is to do.

Festivities for Art In the Park will begin at 9 a.m. tomorrow. Organizers say pancake, coffee and other delicious breakfast items will be served right away.
