Autism Voucher Program Available

Posted: Updated:
Low income families who have a child with autism can now qualify for financial assistance through the state.

More than $500,000 was appropriated to the Department of Human Services during the last legislative session to start the pilot program.

Families that qualify can get up to $12,500 per year, per qualifying child, to pay for technology and services that help enhance the life of those with autism.

"To be able to access the things that might give your child a break. I know a lot of children, many, many children on the spectrum, they really like the swings or the weighted vests or weighted blankets and that just helps the child calm down," says the Autism Service Coordinator Trisha Page.

The Department of Human Services began accepting applications yesterday. For more information visit http://www.nd.gov/dhs/autism/.
