Heitkamp Talks Changes at Minot Air Force Base

Posted: Updated:

Senator John Hoeven met with Major General Scott Vander Hamm earlier in the week, the commander of the Eighth Air Force at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. Heitkamp says she also met with Vander Hamm on the upgrades going on throughout the Air Force and at Minot Air Force Base.

"I had a chance this week to visit with General Vander Hamm," said Senator Heitkamp, "and had a great discussion with him about, kind of, the long-term commitment that the Air Force is making not only to this mission but to the Minot Air Force Base."

The Senator also commented on the addition of personnel to bases around the country as part of the Global Strike Command.

That includes big additions to Minot Air Force Base.

"We think that a good third of it might be headed to the base here. So, we're excited to house that mission," Senator Heitkamp said. "We're excited about the enhancement of that mission. I think it speaks to to how the Department of Defense and how really this country sees the current threats in the world, that we need to enhance our security and enhance this deterrent capability that we have, and it's a step in the right direction," she added.
