National Guard Soldiers Return Home

Posted: Updated:

A warm embrace for some North Dakota National Guard soldiers last night, family and friends gathered at Hector International Airport to welcome back their returning heroes.

These soldiers got to come home three months early after a six month deployment to Afghanistan.

They make up about a quarter of the 40-member Bismarck based 814th Medical Company.

This was the unit's first mission in global war on terrorism, and after a long four day journey home, these soldiers have a lot to look forward too.

"I'm looking forward to avocados. I would like a glass of wine. I want a shower that last longer than three minutes. I want to be able to take a shower without shoes, on and I want to be able to take a shower in the building I sleep in'," says Stephanie Collins of the medical company.

As for the rest of the guard, another quarter of the unit will return at the end of this month and the remainder will return at the end of October.
