Students Visit Basin Electric Garden

Posted: Updated:
Basin Electric Cooperative garden started off as a team building project. And now, they found a way to use the garden as a teaching tool.

This garden started out as an employee project and has found a way to branch out into the community.

Toddlers from the New Discovery Montessori School got a chance to learn about gardening. The class went to Basin Electric Cooperative garden to do fun activities and to see what it looked like up close.

"I only see them in the school setting so it's fun to see them come out and get a chance to just run around and check out different things and be in a different situation and there such great kids," says Lacie Reisenauer of New Discovery.

They spent the day using vegetables as stencils to stamp with paint and were also able to take home a bean seed to plant.

"I think the seeds great. They get to say 'Hey, I planted this.' They get to watch it grow, water and take care of it. It really shows them how the whole process of the food life cycle is," says parent Stacy Walch.

Employees make an effort to keep the garden going while planting it's roots for everyone.

Employees harvested more than 47 pounds of vegetables from the garden and donated it to the Salvation Army.
