Singin' "Happy Birthday" in the Rain!

Posted: Updated:
Birthdays are special, especially when it's a Quasquicentennial.

Governor Jack Dalrymple led folks who braved the elements in a soggy rendition of "Happy Birthday" and then a parade of professional singers took over the stage to entertain a crowd that was covered by umbrellas.

"I wish I would have worn warmer clothes, but otherwise it's good, very good entertainment," says Bismarck Resident, Robynn Berger.

The concert featured lots of home grown talent, lots of songs about North Dakota and Burning hills singers. The Medora Musical Burning Hills Singers were followed by a sister act that's has a growing and very devoted fan base.

"The rain didn't stop me, I would definitely brave anything to watch these girls, their songs are amazing, their super pretty and I look up to them greatly," says Bismarck resident, Rylei Ripplinger.

Tigirlily just released an E.P. and lots of their fans braved the elements to see them strut their stuff, buy some new music, get an autograph or take a selfie.

Dayne Zachrison came all the way from Valley City with his family for the event,  rain or shine.

It's North Dakota, what do you expect, it's just weather," says Zachrison.

It will be another twenty-five years before North Dakota hosts another statehood celebration, hopefully the weather for that event won't be as wet.
